How soon after a cva, which was a result of carotid stenosis, can a cea be completed?

Depends: As far as timing, several factors have to be weighed following a stroke to determine the optimum cooling off period before an invasive procedure such as a CEA is done. Things such as type &, size of stroke, accompanying complications, &general health status of the patient. I'd say most neurologists and neurosurgeons feel comfortable with an average wait time of 6 to 8 weeks.

Depends: In conventional cases it is done 6 - 8 weeks after the stroke. In certain cases it can be done soon after the stroke. Consult your neurologist and vascular surgeon.

Comments: Most surgeons would wait a minimum of 6-8 weeks. During this time, however, you need to take a protective medication such as Aggrenox or clopidigrel.
