Pemphigus vulgaris: Is an autoimmune disease. Women are more prevalent and the disease is usually diagnosed between the ages of 50-70 years, often with oral blisters as the first sign. The blisters typically are painful. There is no cure, but pemphigus is treated with heavy doses of corticosteroids and azathioprine. Many patients with pv are able to have long periods of remission. It is not a cancerous disease.
