Yes: It is usually advisable to wear some support while running. It does not have to be a jock strap but even a firm pair of briefs would work.

Personal preference: I always have and do still as I do marathons and triathlons.Some prefer only the lining of the shorts. Personal preference,but I would not like the testicles bouncing around (especially in the heat when they are outside the cavity) during the activity. They make some comfortable sport briefs which do the job of a typical "jockstrap" supporter.See what works for you. Good Luck. (USAT Level I coach)
