Hiccups: Hiccups result from irritation of the diaphragm. Most commonly, this is from stomach distention. This may be after a large meal, or when one eats quickly consuming large amounts of air. For your purpose, i suspect that the bread you are eating is swelling inside your stomach, and/or, you eat it quickly so you ingest lots of air. Both are leading to stomach distension and diaphragm irritation.
