It is normal: They usually do hurt a little not a lot! and it is usually better the next am! take some tylenol (acetaminophen) or advil or whatever pain reliever is appropriate for you or child and see if better in the am-should be all better or way improved! if not, call your orthodontist! after 33 years in ortho practice I have never written for a narcotic for pain and it just is not needed!

Not uncommon: When you receive new braces or recently have them tightened, the first few days can be a painful. Because your teeth are shifting and trying to get used to the new pressure. Take NSAIDs or Tylenol (acetaminophen) for pain control and be patient.
