If you are pregnant, does getting your teeth cleaned and polished by the dentist have any effect on the baby?

No: It is important to maintain good dental hygiene during pregnancy. Having significant dental disease has been shown to increase the risk of preterm labor. So keep smiling and take care of your pearly whites!

Clean is best: Try to schedule work during 2nd trimester. Know that poor oral hygiene, cavities, and gum disease are associated with premature births and low birth weight. Talk to both dentist & obgyn. Take your folic acid, go for regular pre-natal and regular dental care. Keep your mouth, your teeth, and your gums as healthy as possible for both your sake and your baby's sake. And congratulations!
