An obstacle: To be a complete ophthalmologist you need good stereoscopic vision to perform the kind of microsurgery that the profession demands. There are a few subdisciplines in ophthalmology which do not require this but all training programs would insist that you can do the broad spectrum of surgery required by the training. I suggest other areas of medicine where this will not pose a problem.
