Noisey breathing: Infants airways, particularly the nose is very small and the tissues are floppy so most babies are noisey breathers and often sound congested. Usually this is nothing important. They can catch colds too. If you are unsure talk with your pediatrician.

Management: I agree that this may be a usual finding in a 4 week old baby. Baby's like to breathe through their noses though. If this persists or is associated with symptoms such as fast breathing, apnea ( a pause in breathing ), poor feeding or weight gain, and many other symptoms, I would suggest that she be seen. Saline nasal drops to each nostril and gently removing any mucus will help to clear her nose.

Nasal congestion: At 4 wk the primary cause of congestion are irritants or colds. House dust, fragrance, perfumes, detergent or cleaning products all leave scents that don't bother adults but irritate a babies nose. A good nasal clean out with saline can remove much of this irritant load, but removing the offending irritants from babies life helps more in the long run.Irritants aggravate colds ; nasal wash helps.
