A member asked:

What to do if i burnt my mouth on a very hot brussels sprout 3 weeks ago and it is still very painful. could it lead to cancer?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No: Cancer where ever it arises in the body is inherited in about 5% of patients and acquired in 90-95%. Burning of tissue can cause severe damage that requires time to heal but is not carcinogenic. Cancer of the mouth occurs from alcohol in excess, smoking in excess and exposure to the HPV virus. It also takes years for the carcinogenic effect to take place.
