Type 1 vs 2 diabetes: You can prove this with a few lab tests. Ask your doctor to run a C-peptide test. This measures how much Insulin your pancreas makes, and is not skewed by Insulin shots. A very low level (sometimes zero) indicates type 1. This test can be run in a day or two at a medical lab. If it does suggest type 1, then we usually check for certain antibodies in your blood -the GAD test being a common one
