It depends: Swelling in the lower extremity can be caused by a DVT and it can be accompanied by redness. A thorough history and physical exam by your primary care doctor is probably warranted. If you suspect you have a blood clot, a prompt evaluation by your doctor or the emergency department would be suggested.
