Depends on for what: Methadone can be prescribed as a pain medicine by any physician with a dea class ii certificate. Buprenorphine can be prescribed for pain off-label by anyone with a class iii certificate. However, if your problem is addiction, Methadone can only be prescribed in a licensed program, and Buprenorphine requires a physician with the dea waiver. If you have addiction and they prescribe, they break law.
