Not for addiction: If you are using other opioids to the point where you are not just physically dependent but addicted to them, it is NOT legal for any physician to prescribe methadone to treat the addiction. This requires a state and Federally licensed methadone treatment program. However, for treatment of pain, physicians can prescribe methadone. However, few OB/GYNs would be comfortable or trained to do that.
