No.: Hi billybear! no, having a speech delay does not mean a person is autistic. It could be a sign of autism, but it could just be a speech/language disorder. There are also some other disorders of childhood that could result in a speech delay so it is important to have the problem evaluated. The hallmark symptom of autism is impairment in social functioning so speech delay could be present w/o autism.
