Multiple causes: Infection- systemic viral or bacterial, oral gingivitis, parotiditis, sialadenitis Cancer- Lymphoma of any type, oral or pharyngeal cancers, rarely other cancers, some leukemias. If duration has been more than a week and /or symptoms are severe you should see your primary care physician and get checked soon.
