Like a pimple: An ingrown hair, if it becomes infected, appears much like a pimple. If there is a white center, it may need to be drained and the hair removed. If there is surrounding redness and pain, you may need topical or systemic antibiotic treatment. See your doctor or an emergency room, especially if the infection is worsening or if you are having fever and chills.
