Depends.: Antipsychotics are often used to augment or boost the effects of antidepressants among which are abilify, (aripiprazole) seroquel, zyprexa, and risperdal. There are other augmenters such as buspar, Cytomel or Ritalin depending on the degree of depression and other associated symptoms. Psychotherapy with medications are highly recommended.

PTSD: Although sometimes PTSD symptoms can look like psychosis, the treatment still needs to be focused on expert trauma treatment such as EMDR Therapy. Meds just manage sx they don't resolve anything. And meds for nightmares is like putting a bandage on an infected wound-it just keeps going even if out of sight for a while. For nightmares see my No More Nightmares training and Planned Dream Interventio

Psychotic sx: Hi Christy, These drugs are not generally recommended in isolation for PTSD, and per per VA/DOD practice guidelines, the atypical antipsychotics are a better choice when psychotic symptoms are present.
