Diabetes: Sugar in urine can clue you in to whether you could have diabetes but it is not used to diagnose diabetes. The three tests approved for diagnosis of diabetes are: fasting blood sugar, hemoglobin a1c, and oral glucose tolerance test (ogtt). Symptoms for diabetes vary but the three most common are excessive thirst, urination and hunger.
