Trauma?: Many people with histories of trauma -- through wars, crime, domestic violence, etc -- suffer extreme startle reactions with loud noises. It's as if every neuron in their body is firing all at once, and the person fears survival is at stake. If this is the case with you, please consider seeing a psychiatrist and/or a psychologist to help you with this. Treatment and recovery is possible.
