Yes: Early stages of pregenancy in general doctors avoid x-rays , will order only indicated, radiation exposure is very minimum, if ordered will cover with lead shields, exposing only part that need to be x-rayed.

They can: shield the pelvis but it will obscure part of the abdomen. Also, if there is direct radiation to the abdomen, an external pelvic shield will not prevent some internal scatter radiation from reaching the pelvis. What is the reason for the xray? Alternative imaging studies like Ultrasound or MRI should be substituted if possible.
