Depends: Exposure to radiation is always a concern. But it depends on the concern which may be a good one.For no reason don't do it.If there is a valid problem it is very safe.

It depends: It is a question of risk vs. Benefit. In general, ct scans are quite safe, but there can be risks associated with exposure to radiation. In general, ct is not performed on healthy newborns if another test will suffice (ultrasound, mri). If, however, there is an urgent medical problem (e.g., brain bleed) the short term benefit of a ct scan clearly outweighs the potential long term risks.

Avoid CT in newborns: CT scans use X-rays which is ionizing radiation. This type is known to damage DNA and has shown to increase risk for cancer. Especially in newborns and young children, I would avoid CT unless no alternative is available. CT has a significantly higher dose of X-ray radiation than a plain radiograph like a chest X-ray or abdominal X-ray. Ultrasound is widely used in newborns and is safe.
