Likely not a placebo: It is not ethical or considered standard practice for a physician to prescribe a placebo in the traditional sense of the word; however, sometimes physicians will suggest taking a vitamin or prescribe an antibiotic when they know it likely won't help, which can be considered a placebo of sorts. It may help if you can say which medication was prescribed to you and for what it was prescribed.
