Other possibility: Uti's are very common in older females. If i were to see you and you had an increase in frequency of uti's i would want to know what type of bacteria the culture grew to make sure they were being treated with the right antibiotic. There is a condition called interstitial cystitis that is frequently misdiagnosed as recurrent uti's. Only a urologist can diagnose this.

Suppressive therapy: If you are having repeated uti's, your doctor will want to culture your urine to identify bacteria causing the infection and an antibiotic likely to eradicate it. After appropriate treatment of the current uti, the doctor may suggest suppressive therapy with a daily low dose of antibiotic to prevent recurrent uti. The doctor may also want to check other problems that may predispose to uti.
