May be muscle: Since behind both ears it may be muscle. We need to know what else you have going on. This is something to discuss this with your physician. It coudl be from the neck as well and your evlaaution will clarify this.

Mastoid Process?: You definitely need to be seen for an exam by your primary care doctor. Is there any fever? Have you had a recent ear infection? You are describing the mastoid process, the bone you can feel behind your ear. On rare occasions it can become infected. There are also many lymph nodes in and around this area, you will need a careful exam to get the right diagnosis!
