Serotonin levels.: This measures the amount of serotonin in your body. Higher than normal levels may mean carcinoid syndrome. The normal range is 101-283 ng/ml. This has a triad of cutaneous flushing, diarrhea, and valvular heart disease, and occurs in 5% of patients with carcinoid tumors. This is important since patients with this syndrome have a 2.5 year median survival from the first episode of flushing.
