A member asked:

I would like to talk to someone about serotonin blood test accuracy for carcinoid syndrome.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not reliable: Blood tests for Serotonin are not all that reliable. So a metabolite called 5HIAA is often measured in a 24 hour Urine collection. Even this test is not all that reliable. So the diagnosis and treatment decisions are based on clinical symptoms and the experience of the treating doctor. Seek an expert in Carcinoid syndrome. A second opinion before starting any treatment is advised.
