No carbs: A strict ketogenic diet is one in which you will release ketones which can be measured in the urine. This occurs when carbohydrates are avoided completely and only protein and fats are eaten.

Protein and Fat: A ketogenic diet is a diet that is mostly protein and fat and very little if any carbohydrates. Since your body runs on carbohydrates as glucose, it has to break down fat for energy when you dont take in enough carbs. The by product of the fat breakdown is ketones. They are eliminated in the urine.

Diet without carbs!: The fewer carbs, in absolute amount, with greater percent protein and fat, will put you into dietary ketosis! the old atkin's standard to induce ketosis in "ketosis" resistance dietars was to eat cream cheese and macadamia nuts. This always works (few days). I have been on a low carb diet since 1995. I do not count calories at all. Weight is college weight.

Ketogenic diet: Is high fat, adequate protein, low carbohydrate diet used primarily to treat difficult-to-control (refrectory) epilepsy in children. It mimics starvation by forcing the body to burn fats rather than carbohydrates. This results in accumulation of ketones from breakdown of fats by liver, and this increase ketones leads to decrease frequency of seizures.
