How can an optometrist check for an eye disease?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Less well: The best specialist to see to check for eye disease is an ophthalmologist (a physician with an m. D. Also called eye md's). Optometrists have training in fitting glasses and contact lenses but cannot do surgery and take minimal training in eye disease. There are many parts to an eye examination and when done thorougly with a good background, any problems can be detected.
