Strength training: I presume when you say “lose calories”you mean lose weight. Aerobic training is an efficient way to lose weight and burn fat. However, strength training results in larger muscles which burn fat and expend calories at a higher level than undeveloped muscle. Typically, a combined program of strength training and aerobic conditioning results in the weight loss you seek.
