Reasons:: Aging, Hormonal, Decreased Metabolism, Lack of Exercise (sedentary lifestyle), Diet- Food Selection (high fat, high carb, high calorie), Medications that increase weight gain, and medical conditions that increase weight gain like Hypothyroidism, Diabetes, Metabolic Syndrome, Steroid-Producing conditions.
No one would know what your reasons are without history and physical and lab workup.

See a doctor: You should see your doctor soon if you are gaining weight rapidly. You need to be evaluated and treated for any possible endocrine conditions or other diseases that could cause the weight gain. Sometimes meds and other illnesses can cause fluid retention. If you are female, you should get a pregnancy test.
