Hernia pain: Inguinal hernia repairs are one of the oldest surgical procedures performed. They are very successful open and laparoscopic with a very low incidence of chronic pain. Chronic pain after a hernia repair can be the result of a trapped nerve, inflammation from a mesh, or scarring about a nerve called a neuroma. If the pain is related to the repair, it likely would have been present since day one.
