Awake: Although it is a tempting idea to have an MRI while sleeping, that is usually not a good idea. Patients move a bit when sleeping and dreaming, and sometimes snore, and are unable to listen to instructions while asleep. This usually leads to a poor study due to motion artifacts. Patients should be relaxed and awake during the study.
