A member asked:

22 m.severe vit d and b12 deficiency.a psychiatrist said i have clinical depression too and put me on escitalopram.should i wait til vit levels rise ?

No, don't wait: They are separate problems, and the d deficiency may take months to correct since vitamin d is fat soluble. Your physician knows best, and you should follow their instructions.

Doctor advise : Please consult with your psychiatrist - if your doctor advised you to take the medication for clinical depression then please discuss with him/her. While vitamin deficiencies , anemia , thyroid problems are possible causative factors for depression , and treatment often could be to treat the underlying medical cause - there is a possibility of co morbid mood disorders that would need treatment.
