Virus or IBS: If this is a new development it could be a viral gastroenteritis which runs its course in a week. Other infectious diarrhea cases last longer and a stool culture and exam for ova and parasites are recommended for continuing diarrhea lasting over 10 days. If you've had a pattern of frequent diarrhea on and off for years, irritable bowel syndrome is likely. See a gastroenterologist if symptoms persis.
