A member asked:

My 10 y.o. had an unstable scfe. she now has to have an osteotomy because of avn. what should we expect? therapy? cost? wheelchair? everything!

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Hard to say: The best outcome for this disorder is usually achieved from early surgical intervention and fixation of the femoral head with pins or screws. Avn is the most common complication of this disorder. This can be treated early with either non weight bearing or even surgical core decompression. If everything fails, hip replacement surgery or at least replacement of the femoral component is definitive.
