Scarlet fever: A streptococcal infection which creates a rash which feels like sandpaper, blanches on pressure, more accentuated in creases of the skin, and with red face with pallor around mouth. It is caused by a toxin excreted by group a strep and is treated by getting rid of the strep with penicillin or other antibiotics.
