Rectal bleed: Most common cause of rectal bleeding is hemorrhoides. There are other causes. What you just described is commonly causes by hemorrhoides. Physical exam is needed to confirm it though.

Possible hemorrhoids: What you are describing is termed "hematochezia" , which is the passage of bright red blood in stool. Blood when wiping in a person of your age is likely secondary to hemorrhoids which are common and best treated with increased dietary fiber intake. If you continue to have this problem it is best to see a medical professional to perform a complete physical exam.
