Get Tested!: A fasting blood sugar is the most common screening test for diabetes. If further tests show that you have diabetes, your doctor can help decide the best treatment for you. If diabetes is not present, your doctor can help you adopt healthy lifestyle changes to reduce your risk of diabetes in the future.

Get tested: Hi. 4 ways to test for diabetes: fasting glucose, random glucose (not fasting), A1c, and oral glucose tolerance test; each test has its own diagnostic criteria. Most doctors start with a fasting AM glucose because it's cheap & easy. Other testing depends on your symptoms and what your doctor considers as possible explanations. Talk with your doctor. Good luck!

Peak ↑Carb or HbA1c: Fasting blood glucose (BG) is LEAST sensitive. Checking for peak BG after eating a high carb meal, e.g. IHop stack of pancakes with syrup, is far more sensitive, a home glucometer can suffice & less $. However, better yet is HbA1c which reflects average BG over last 2-3 months, can be done any time & optimal value, 5.0% of less, is well documented in humans; not called DM until 6.5% by Med.Ds.Sys.
