Helps: Hurt as in pain or harm other dental structures? About 80% of population do not have room for wisdom teeth since our jaws are getting smaller. If left in they can harm other teeth, cause gum or other infections, or be the focus for a damaging cyst. If it has been recommended they be removed chances are, at your age , that one or more of these things are happening. Take your dentist's advice.

Yes*: It could be very painful if Dr. Szell from the movie, The Marathon Man is your dentist. If you are properly anesthetized (numb) you may feel some pressure. If you are extremely anxious, or have wisdom teeth that are positioned in a difficult position requiring a more complex procedure, you may opt for IV sedation or a general anesthetic if provided.

Relatively painless: Fortunately, modern anesthetics allow wisdom teeth surgery to be done virtually pain-free and worry free. With the profound local anesthesia and IV sedation you will have no recall of the events of the dental treatment/oral surgery or experience any pain.
