Yes, it's common: Unfortunately it is more common to have multiple fibroids than a single solitary one. The fibroids are often in different stages of growth, such that at the time of a myomectomy (surgical removal of fibroid[s]) every fibroid may not be visible or palpable to the surgeon, especially if they remove the fibroids laparoscopically as opposed to an open procedure where they can feel the tumors by hand.
