A member asked:

False mono test but all signs point to mono. doctor was sure it was. could it be a false negative ? all the symptoms of mono. symptoms for about 2 weeks

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes: The common mono test can remain negative early in the illness or be falsely negative for technical reasons. At some point it would turn positive, and or a more sensitive test could be run. There is also more than one germ that causes a mono syndrome, so additional studies might find this is not a classical ebv mono.
