Local pain: This could be bursitis and or lateral ligament strain i advice to do and x-ray and have a full exam then specific treatment.

Medial knee pain: Intermittent medial knee has several possibilites. Could be pes bursitis or a meniscus tear. You might also have a condition called osteochondritis dissecans or simple localized chondromalacia from an old injury.
