A doctor has provided 1 answer

Common at this age: Voluntary stool retention is common at this age, results in gut distension, increases mucus secretion, & makes stools harder & more dessicated which in turn may result in painful stooling. Child then squeezes more to avoid pain, ultimately passing sodacan size stools that plug cammode. See doc to rule out hirschprung's, intermittent pseudo-obstruction (ciip), cyclic vomiting, "secondary gain".
