RDW: High RDW indicates increased variability in red cell size, called anisocytosis, which is commonly found in nutritional deficiency such as iron, folate, (folic acid) and vitamin b12. High RDW alone is not specific. Combination of MCV and rdw, retic can be more suggestive. Sometime increased rbc frament can also give high rdw. Thus a blood smear review is usually helpful for high rdw.
