You need rest: A sprain can sometimes take a prolonged period of time to fully recover, especially if you keep doing the activity. If you are continuing to play volleyball you may be constantly re-inuring the area and this can lead to chronic pain that may never go away. If you have been resting the area and you are having worsening pain i would suggest you see a physician for further evaluation.

Syndresmosis?: "high" ankle sprains can occur from all sports but are especially common in american football. If your ankle, when you landed awkwardly, turned 'out' instead of the usual 'in' and your pain is 'above' your ankle is still present then u may have injured the syndresmotic ligaments connecting your tibia to your fibula. These 'high' ankle sprains can be more difficult to heal and last longer. High ankle sprain: A high ankle sprain or distal fibula fracture needs to be considered. I would get evaluated by a pm;r physician, sports medicine orthopedist, or podiatrist. An xray will likely be performed.
