A member asked:

Are the gums usually sutured back for better attachment following a periodontal pocket reduction procedure using a gum flap?

Yes: If a periodontal flap procedure was done, then the gums were surgically laid back for access to the diseased area. Upon the cleaning and treating of the pocketed area, the gums will be sutured back often in a slightly lower position thus helping reduce the pocket depth.

Quite often: Yes. The gum tissue may be sutured and covered with a packing to protect the healing. Ask questions.
