Follow instructions: A patient should follow her doctor's instructions on taking medicine. Azithromycin (zithromax) is usually taken once a day for 5 days to treat certain types of infections. Albuterol comes in different forms, but the hand-held inhaler (metered-dose inhaler) is usually taken as 2 puffs by mouth, every 4 to 6 hours, when treating asthma-cough symptoms. Many doctors tailor drug dosing to each patient.
