Yes, go see now: A gastroenterologist is a specialist in diseases of the gastrointestinal tract - they do have some training in the management of liver diseases. However, with your complications of encephalopathy and ascites, it would be advisable to see a liver specialist, a hepatologist, who can better manage these complications as well as time the referral for advanced treatments, such as liver transplantation.
