Might be a virus: Low white blood cell counts can have different significance depending upon the particular situation. In a normal child with fever and low WBC it often suggests that this is due to viral infection, but there are other potential causes and the family doctor or pediatrician may want to follow this up with repeat testing, depending upon other findings.
