Usually: ICDs are small devices, about the size of a pager, that are usually placed just below the left collarbone, but sometimes on the right. Newer defibrillator types may be implanted slightly leftward & bellow the left nipple. Older defibrillators may be in the abdomen. Breast tissue, fat, or rarely muscle can hide the device. Make sure wounds are well healed and kept clean to prevent infection.
